JAK2 MUTATIONS AT A GLANCE

  1. Involved in: blood cancers and disorders including polycythemia vera, primary myelofibrosis, thrombocythemia, leukemia.
  2. Testing requires: a blood draw. Bone marrow samples occasionally used.
  3. Prognosis: Patients with a JAK2 mutation have a lower survival rate and higher rate of blood clots when compared to patients with a CALR mutation.
  4. Treatment: Ruxolitinib may improve quality of life in patients with a JAK2 mutation.
