David Wallace
Founder & CEO of MPN Cancer Connection and PV Reporter | Patient Advocate
David Wallace is a Patient Advocacy Leader, CEO and Executive Director of MPN Cancer Connection, a non-profit public charity based in Charlotte, North Carolina. David was diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV) in 2009 at the age of 47. He soon learned there was limited and often conflicting information available on Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs). Early on in his diagnosis, he also realized the importance of advocating for yourself to best manage your disease. He was grateful for the early support and guidance on his journey from fellow MPN patients. With a professional background in business administration and sociology, he has a passion for finding solutions and helping others. He wanted a way to give back to the MPN community.
Using his current skill set, David first founded PV Reporter, a comprehensive patient-focused website and resource hub for MPNs. PV Reporter offers patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers a wealth of educational resources, patient stories, articles, and new clinical trial treatments for MPNs.
Next in 2015, David founded MPN Cancer Connection (MPN-CC), a patient-driven 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charity. MPN-CC was created to bring awareness to MPN patients that they are “cancer patients” which allows complete access to both local and national program resources and patient assistant benefits to assist with their care. His philosophy is to educate patients to become their own advocates so they can make informed decisions on both their health care and treatment options.
David’s dedication to the MPN community is further evidenced through his work and awards:
- Awarded Press Credentials for American Society of Hematology Conference 2014-2023
- Selected to represent the United States as a patient advocate by MPNs Advocate Network International Conference 2016-2023
- Recipient of MPN Hero Award 2016
- Published in MD Anderson Cancer Center MPN Focus Newsletter Fall 2016
- Appearance on “The Doctors” TV show in 2015 to promote MPN awareness
- Selected to endorse 2022 NCCN guidelines for MPN patients by MPN Cancer Connection
